Interim Management

Interim Management

Interim management to temporarily replace a managing position or during reorganisations within companies requires special attention for the work force. Reorganisations can have a big impact on people working in the company, not only on their roles and responsibilities but also on the way they feel and act. An interim manager should recognise these impacts and guide personnel through the difficult period.

High trust between the team and the manager

Bottom up approach

Flikkema Innovation Management & Consultancy apply a bottom up approach to management. It is the philosophy that the managers’ main role is to facilitate the team to do their work in the most optimal conditions. Creating these conditions and listening to the needs of the team is essential in increasing the team satisfaction and efficiency. This does not mean that the manager should do everything the team tells him or her to do. It means that the wishes and requirements of the team members should be heard and weighted against the company requirements. If the company requirements prevail, it should be explained very well why this decision is made.

In the experience of Maarten Flikkema, the bottom up approach where the teams are heard, and their needs are seriously considered creates high trust between the team and the manager. With this trust it is easier to implement top down decisions as the team feels that their needs were appropriately weighted.

FIMC is available for interim management of teams and departments. Maarten Flikkema will then work on site as manager for the agreed period and the agreed number of hours.

“A manager should be there to support the team to get the best out of themselves, not the other way around.”
